These products contain solvents such as propanol or isopropanol, which are flammable liquids and hence require specific measures to handle them safely. The role of innovation for industrial processes and the contribution of both decentralised energy systems and strategic partnerships with neighbouring regions with strong renewable energy potential should also be investigated.

How can we rapidly incentivise the huge investments needed and roll out breakthrough technologies at industrial scale by 2030 at the latest?
\n\n\n\nThis session will investigate the role of Carbon Contracts for Difference (CCfD) to mitigate the uncertainty around the future emissions allowances prices and support the deployment of first-of-a-kind technologies. CCfD offer governments the opportunity to guarantee investors a fixed price that rewards CO2 emission reductions above the current price levels in the EU ETS.

The EU Commission will define ecodesign requirements for products. Only products meeting those requirements will be allowed to be placed on the EU market, including imports. As a first step, the Commission will identify for which products and by when the ecodesign requirements should apply. The first workplan setting out product priorities will be published in early 2025.
\n\n\n\nThere are still a lot of unknowns and questions on practicalities of ESPR implementation: how should chemical companies prepare for the upcoming requirements?; what are the main points of attention?; how to engage with the value chains and policy-makers?; what products will be covered with which ecodesign requirements?; and how would the rules be enforced?
