Enhancing Ergonomics for All

Corteva has seen a significant increase in the number of female production workers. This growth has enabled the company to identify and address ergonomic issues that were previously overlooked, leading to the implementation of improvement measures that benefit all workers, regardless of gender. The multi-disciplinary working group at Corteva is dedicated to promoting the inclusion of women in production areas, with the goal of eliminating or reducing physical constraints for everyone.
A Collaborative Approach
The strategy involves the creation of a multi-disciplinary working group comprising production operators, technicians, engineers, EHS coordinators, nurses, production managers, and maintenance technicians. This team works together to define objectives, target areas, and strategies aimed at reducing and preventing accidents related to ergonomics. Female workers from all manufacturing areas are invited to participate, and male workers are welcome to join if they wish.
Identifying and Addressing Issues

Field observations are conducted to identify ergonomic issues, followed by risk assessments through direct interviews, targeted questionnaires, and risk assessment documents. Brainstorming sessions with field personnel, technical staff, and plant management help find the right solutions. Actions are prioritised using a decision matrix and risk assessment documents, with input from management and supervision.
Implementing Solutions
Once solutions are identified, suppliers are found, quotes are received, budgets are validated, and actions are scheduled and implemented. Good practices and organisational changes are leveraged to ensure the effectiveness of these actions in the short, medium, and long term. The women’s perspective is integrated into each modification of workstations or new installations.
Continuous Improvement and Communication
At every step, data is shared with all colleagues in the area under study during face-to-face meetings. This allows them to express their views, propose solutions, assess feasibility, share best practices, and stay informed about ongoing stages and decisions. This approach ensures that the work environment is adapted to women, benefiting all staff members.
